Alku is a small CDR label which never cease to surprise the listener with new ideas. '10 Citas A Ciegas' means '10 Blind Dates'. Twenty artists were invited to send in a track of exactely two minutes, which was coupled to another one of two minutes. Alku made the selection for this combinations, so nobody knew what the final result would be. X+Y=XY indeed. It turned out to be strange combinations, like Needle & Thomas Dimuzio or Plank and Kubin & Garland. One of the great advantages of laptop musics is of course that the possibilities are unlimited and in the realms of digital sound anything sounds digital and most of the time good. If you ever saw some people improvising on a laptop, you know what I mean. Here the laptop crackles work in various directions, from technoid lounge (Beige/Mainpal) to noise (Errorsmith/Opopop) and a most curious piece between Kevin Drumm and Francisco Lopez - who incorporate the most of noise and a bit of silence... and Wobbly and Time's Up going for the real feedback noise. BTTB - Back To The Basics
In den Neuheiten präsentiert der Vinylizer heute unter anderem drei Konzeptalben. Zunächst die neue Compilation in der Red-Hot-Series, die sich diesmal unter dem Titel Red Hot & Riot speziell auf die afrikanische Aidskrise bezieht. Man könnte auch sagen, daß es sich bei dieser Compilation um ein Tribut-Album an den 1997 an Aids verstorbenen Afro-Beat-Pionier Fela Anikulapo Kuti handelt. Die Musik ist großartig, meist inspireren sich die Künstler am Werk von Fela Kuti, samplen oder covern Stücke. Herausgekommen ist ein sehr empfehlenswertes Album, dessen Gewinn an die Red Hot Organization weitergeleitet wird.
Ein anderes Konzeptalbum ist weit schwerer zu bekommen, denn es ist auf dem kleinen, eher unbekannten Undergroundlabel Alku aus Portugal erschienen. Titel dieser Compilation ist x+y=xy und die Einladung an die Künstler, deren Beiträge man auf diesem Album findet, las sich wie folgt: "This is a different approach to collaborations / splits, based on the idea of blind dates. We arrange you a blind date with another artist. Kind of a blind split. You must send us a piece of exactly 2 minutes, and so has the other invited person (your couple). We get your piece and his piece and overlap both: x+y=xy." Auf der CD findet man also 10 Stücke von 20 Künstlern, die alle exakt 2 Minuten lang sind. Wir hören eines dieser Blind Dates, an denen übrigens auch der Hamburger Klangkünstler Felix Kubin beteiligt gewesen ist.
Auch wenn es kaum möglich ist, aber das dritte Konzeptalbum in der heutigen Sendung ist noch schwerer im Handel zu bekommen, als das aus Portugal, denn es wird gar nicht erst erscheinen.
